6 European Auto Safety Tips You Should Know

Did you know that American drivers spend an average of more than 17,600 minutes behind the wheel each year? That’s equivalent to seven 40-hour weeks at the office - you heard us right!

1. Check Fluid Levels - At least once a month, be sure to check all of your fluid levels with your car on level ground. You want to address your engine oil, coolant (anti-freeze), power steering fluid, brake fluid and windshield washer fluid. Using the proper OEM fluids for top offs are important because the wrong fluids can and do lead to expensive repairs down the road.  Whenever you are in doubt, feel free to reach out to us and we can make sure you that you know the right fluid to use.
2. Proper Tire Pressure: Check your tire pressure every month to keep you safely on the road during a variety of weather conditions. Use the inflation pressure recommended by your Euro vehicle’s manufacturer found on the inside of your door panel or inside your fuel door. 
3. Fresh Wiper Blades: A clear, unobstructed view of the road is the main factor in your driving decisions. Make sure your car’s wipers provide you with the cleanest windshield possible - and don’t forget the wiper fluid!
4. Technology Savvy: While all of the technological advancements have enhanced the way we travel in our cars, it is crucial to understand how your in-car user interface works. Take the time to read through your owner’s manual and get acclimated with your media system before you hit the road to prevent distractions. Need a little help? 5. Listen To Your Car: Do you hear an abnormal grinding or chatters? Is there a weird vibration? If so, your car is letting you know it is having some problems. Schedule a multi-point inspection and get those checked early to prevent a future breakdown.
6. Plan Ahead: Just like looking at the weather to know what to pack in your suitcase, you should always plan ahead before a trip. A simple safety inspection by your favorite mechanic will save you time, money and a lot of hassle down the road.

4 Things You Didn't Know About Your TDI

Offering incredible fuel economy perfect for long commutes, it is understandable why many Volkswagen and Audi TDI customers stay true to their mechanic’s repair schedule.  Diligent TDI drivers keep up on everything from minor oil and filter services every 10,000 miles to timing-belt replacements every 120,000 miles, to keep their vehicle running at its best. 

While commuters and drivers looking for overall fuel economy covet this turbo-direct-injection-diesel engine, which is often associated with Volkswagen and Audi, they still may be surprised to discover some key characteristics of their car.

Did you know …

1.  A clean fuel filter is a must!  Fuel filter services are due every 20,000 miles for TDI drivers.  It keeps the high pressure side of the fuel system from getting particulates, or pieces of matter, inside the system and prevents excessive damage in the fuel system from said matter.  Our team always primes your fuel system with Liqui Moly Diesel Purge, to TDIs running like new.

2.  Use quality fluids.  Just because you get 40 mpg, doesn’t mean you can overlook your fluids.  TDI drivers should always use quality diesel fuel and the correct engine oil (VW 505.01 or VW507.00) to ensure their vehicle makes it to the 200,00+ mile mark without a major mechanical breakdown.

3.  You can break the Audi/VW code -  Modules in TDIs can be re-coded with a VCDS scan tool to unlock features of the car that aren’t normally available in the United States.  These VCDS mods include controlling windows and sunroofs with a key fob or changing your day-time-running lights from your low beams to your fog lights, giving your VW or Audi a personal touch.

4.  Your TDI transmission was born from Le Mans technology – Audi started racing diesels in 2005 at Le Mans, one of the most prestigious automobile races in the world often called the "Grand Prix of Endurance and Efficiency.”  Inspirations from race to road are seen in the TDI transmission’s duel sequential gear box as well as the diesel engine and fuel system technology.  After winning Le Mans in 2005, Audi began to integrate the technology into the road cars a few years later.
